Ansel is 4 months old!
Like his older siblings, we held a food ceremony for him, a tradition which my mum-in-law told us to carry out for the firstborn over a decade ago when we were still living in Sweden and have kept ever since.
Prawn, chicken drumstick, biscuit, apple and brown rice cereal - these are the five items that he got to lick and taste on his special day in the hope that he will be good at eating and not be fussy as he grows.
It was heartening to see that this boy loves his food, especially the apple and rice cereal. That curious but happy look on him was just so precious. Hopefully, he will enjoy his food when we start him on porridge when he turns six months old. It makes me excited just thinking about it although it also means we will be even busier when the time comes.
What was even more heartwarming was to see the siblings feeding him with love, enthusiasm and patience. Yup, they are just as, if not more, excited as me to feed the baby and every milestone he achieves always makes all of us proud and thrilled. It's just so nice to be have a baby in the house and to have a bunch of siblings to grow up with.
Happy to see you happy, Ansel! For now, we are still gonna stick to breast milk and maybe just a little cereal for another two months before we start exploring more. Can't wait to introduce more yummy solids to you and go on this fun-filled eating journey with you. We love you! ❤
P.S. Ansel is sitting on his Cocoon high chair from Love Oribel which is not just stylish and pleasing to the eye but functional and versatile too. Love the tray which can be removed and rinsed after a meal, makes life easier for me. Yay!

.生蠔放題
生蠔向來被視為壯陽聖品,不少男士在備孕時都瘋狂吃蠔為樂。
⚠️中醫小貼士:蠔含有的鋅是組成精子的重要成份之一,但中醫不鼓勵進食生冷食物,想吃蠔不妨煮熟來吃,但蠔其實沒有顯著的壯陽功效,適量進食就好。
.滴雞精隨身
不少人覺得懷孕前要「補身」,滴雞精成方便之選。
⚠️中醫小貼士:滴雞精是濃縮版燉湯,功效比普通雞湯更要滋補濃厚,較適合久病、氣血虛弱人士適量飲用。雞屬性偏熱,每天喝滴雞精當心補過頭,出現口乾、口苦、暗瘡等體質偏熱症狀。
.薑茶日日灌
常聽說想成功懷孕需「暖宮」,於是每天泡杯黑糖薑茶飲用。
⚠️中醫小貼士:薑性溫,比較適合虛寒體質人士,如果身體有偏熱症狀例如口乾、口瘡、暗瘡等,每天喝薑茶等於火上加油。
.豬肝吃到嘔
據說豬肝補鐵又補血,甚至能提高精子及卵子的質素。
⚠️中醫小貼士:豬肝性溫,的確有養血、補肝、明目的功效,但內臟食物高脂肪、高膽固醇,不宜進食過量。
.牛奶每天喝
牛奶是營養飲品,多喝牛奶補充營養,嬰兒皮膚也會白一點呢!
⚠️中醫小貼士:牛奶有補虛、生津潤腸、有益肺胃的功效,但性質較滋膩,不適合脾胃虛弱人士,否則容易出現消化不良、多胃氣、腹部脹滿等症狀,所以要視乎個人體質飲用。

Foods we eat while trying to get pregnant
Some couples tend to panic when they are unable to conceive, and they would try eating all sorts of food to increase the chances of getting pregnant based on people’s recommendations. Some might even go to the extent of trying weird dishes. Have you or your friends experienced below?
.Raw oysters
People treat raw oysters as aphrodisiac, and many men in particular would indulge in it while getting their female counterpart ready for pregnancy.
⚠️Tip: oyster contains zinc, which is an important component in sperms, but Chinese physicians do not encourage eating it raw and cold. Hence, it would be best to eat the cooked ones. Oysters are not exactly an excellent aphrodisiac, so do consume in an appropriate amount.
.Chicken essence
Many people think it is important to nourish the body before getting pregnant. Hence, chicken essence is the most convenient choice.
⚠️Tip: Chicken essence is a type of concentrated soup and has more benefits than the usual chicken soup. It is suitable for individuals who have been sick for a long time and those who are weak in the qi and blood. According to Chinese physicians, chicken is warm in nature, so be cautious not to consume it on a daily basis. Otherwise, heat-related symptoms such as dry and bitter mouth and acnes would appear.
.Ginger tea
In order to conceive successfully, ‘warming the womb’ is one of the many advices people would share. Hence, they would think that drinking black sugar ginger tea everyday could help with pregnancy.
⚠️Tip: According to Chinese physicians, ginger is warm in nature, and it is suitable for individuals with the cold and weak body constitution. On the contrary, drinking ginger tea on a daily basis is as good as adding fuel to the fire for those who are already exhibiting heat-related symptoms such as dry mouth, oral cankers, and acnes.
.Pork liver
Rumor has it that pork liver can replenish iron and the blood and improve the quality of sperms and ovum.
⚠️Tip: Pork liver is warm in nature and, according to Chinese physicians, can indeed nourish the blood, replenish the liver, and brighten one’s vision. However, innards are high in fats and cholesterols. This is why one should not consume them excessively.
.Milk
Milk is a healthy beverage. Drinking more milk can nourish the body and give the baby a fairer complexion!
⚠️Tip: According to Chinese physicians, milk can replenish deficiencies in the body, induce saliva production and moisten the intestines, and strengthen the lungs and the stomach. However, due to its thick and sticky nature, it is not suitable for individuals with a weak spleen and stomach. Otherwise, these individuals would experience indigestion, gas in the stomach, and bloating. It is important for individuals to understand their body constitutions first before drinking.

If I knew that there was such a thing called confinement food catering when I first gave birth in 2009, I would definitely have taken it up. However, that was a time when we were living in Sweden and with the culture being so vastly different over there, confinement was an unfamiliar concept. From what I saw, many mums were out and about with their newborns shortly after giving birth, which explains why I am also an active mum who doesn't like to stay indoor much.
In spite of that, I do believe that it is very important for us to control our diet and eat well during this period. Even though my first confinement was done overseas in the midst of winter, as much as I could, I stayed off snacks and cold stuff, ate nutritious food and maintained a healthy diet. I honestly feel that eating the right food would help to accelerate my postpartum recovery process and give me the strength I needed to care for the baby, which was important since I was usually on my own.
While I never had a confinement lady before -- it's the same as why we don't have a helper, I just prefer to do it on my own instead of asking others to look after my kids - I did have my mother-in-law come over to cook for me during my past confinements. This was something I deeply appreciated yet I also felt bad for making her go through the hassle. For instance, when we were in Sweden, she had to hunt high and low for the food ingredients, like red dates, old ginger and pig's liver, which were rare and hard to find in most cases, and with the need to cook every day, things could get tiring for her.
Now that years have passed and age has caught up, I surprised our friends and family members by boldly having a fourth baby. Yup, and so the cycle begins all over again. Given that I am older and more experienced now, I decided I didn't want to trouble anyone - well, except for the hubby - to help for my confinement but instead settle everything on my own.
Thanks to Tian Wei Signature, all my meals were settled for the entire month which allowed me to focus on resting and caring for the baby, woohoo! This was so important for me as he was born prematurely and I wanted to make sure he was doing well and properly looked after. Having confinement meals delivered to my doorstep was a feeling that I loved, because it meant I didn't have to depend on others to cook for me yet I also did not have to slog in the kitchen at a time when I was supposed to be recuperating. I tried out their most extensive package, which is the 28-Day Double, including both Lunch and Dinner, and it was something that I truly enjoyed and looked forward to each day.
In this post, I'll share with you more on why I totally think that confinement food catering is a lifesaver, at least for me, and will showcase more of the dishes I've tried and which I loved best. Everyday trying to expand baby's palette so he's not picky. So far he's enjoyed eating solids. Definitely getting bigger as well. Makes me so emotional. I feel like he's about to walk out of here already. Obviously not for a good number of years so in the mean time we will just enjoy him as much as we can and put aside our exhaustion. You can't take these moments back.
