「把錢省下來吧」 綜合維他命效用有限

想多存點錢嗎?這裡有個好方法,把平時購買綜合維他命的錢省下來。根據3份長期追蹤的研究報告顯示,市售綜合維他命與營養補充劑對於預防疾病與死亡並無功效,研究結果刊登在17日出版的《內科年鑑》(Annals of Internal Medicine)中。
這篇名為《夠了,不要再浪費錢買維他命與補充劑》(Enough is Enough: Stop Wasting Money on Vitamin and Mineral Supplements)的評論引述了3份報告,3份報告分別針對了綜合維他命與營養補充劑在預防心血管疾病、癌症與認知能力的效用上進行追蹤研究。
第1份報告綜合分析了27份研究的逾45萬臨床病例後,發現綜合維他命對於心血管疾病與癌症的預防並無作用,更甚者,長期只補充β-胡蘿蔔素的癮君子們罹患肺癌的比例反而更高。
第2份報告針對近6000名65歲以上的男性醫師進行12年的追蹤,觀察他們在服用綜合維他命後對認知與語言能力的關連,結果也是不顯著。在第3份報告中,挑選了1700名有心臟病發作經驗的患者,一天服用三種綜合維他命或百憂解2次,進行為期5年的觀察,發現對於預防心臟病再度發作並無幫助。
綜合3份報告的結果,證明服用綜合維他命、抗氧化劑、葉酸與B群等營養補充劑,對於預防疾病或減緩老化均無明顯功效。值得注意的是,研究還發現,服用β-胡蘿蔔素、維生素E以及高劑量的維生素A反倒會增加早夭的風險。
據統計,維生素與補充劑的全球市場大餅每年高達新台幣3600億元,其中,綜合維他命仍為最歡迎的產品。評論共同執筆人之一的米勒醫師提醒,部分體內天生維生素不足、罹患吸收不良症候群(malabsorption syndrome)或是預防胎兒神經管缺陷的孕婦的族群,醫師還是會開立處方建議服用,但對於一般人來說,「把錢省下來吧!」
台北馬偕醫院營養師趙強18日指出,這項研究的結果基本上正確,從人類發現維生素的歷史來看,每一次都是在人體極度缺乏的狀況下才陸續知道原來我們需要這些維生素,況且身體具有代償能力,這個機制會補足人體維生素的平衡,除非患有相關疾病,否則確實不需額外補充維生素。
