my sweet angel mother has finally retired and turns a year older today.
and masyaAllah is she deeply loved and delightfully celebrated by her wonderful colleagues and students. i'm so happy for mummy and beyond proud of her too.
it hasn't been easy to be an educator that's for sure.. and then you put being an accomplished writer, a mother of 5, a devoted wife & daughter, a loyal friend.. and to do it all so effortlessly, with so much love. she's our wonder woman. i learn so much from you mummy.
"anakanda kedua-ku, Trisha, yang sering pulang ke rumah membawa 1001 cerita.." — i tell my mom so many things, and she often say to me, "hidup adik ni menarik betul, macam-macam jadi, mummy rasa macam nak tulis buku" and i'd always smile, thinking how lucky i am.
when i'm out expanding the wings of my career and my life, she has always been there; at home and in school, expanding the wings of her children — in the kitchen where she taught us to cook, or in the classroom where she taught her students bahasa. always giving her best. always showing how much she cares. always pushing boundaries. always gracing us with her soulful presence.
thank you for all that you do mummy. you are so, so loved — and you deserved every ounce of it. selamat bersara dan selamat hari jadi bondaku tercinta.
love,
trisha/adik.

In memory of Chris McRae
Late last night I learned of the passing of a dear friend and colleague, Chris McRae. According to posts from Ray Merriman and the Astrological Guild in Washington, Chris died on Dec 28, 2020 at @ 3:00pm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her death was the result of a sudden fall on or around Dec 24, at which time she was admitted to the hospital with a broken hip and collar bone. She was 92-years old, and would've turned 93 this month. She was born January 29, 1928 at 10:13:32 AM in Rosetown, Canada.
Chris was a legend in the world of professional astrology, a revered teacher, and a highly respected leader in the creation of the ISAR CAP program. She was beloved by many, especially here in China - having visited China in 2013 and 2014 as a representative of ISAR. Those of you who participated in the ISAR Training in Beijing in 2013 and 2014 could testify to the incredible energy, intelligence, commitment and warm heart of this amazing woman. When she first came to China as an ISAR Consulting Skills Trainer she was already 85-years old, but you'd never know it!
I can still see her walking along at a fast clip with her cane as motor scooters and carts whizzed around her. She enjoyed walking through the hutongs, but most of all she loved her new Chinese students! The red roses posted below are "from" Chris to her Chinese students at the end of her PPT course material back in 2014. Felicia Jiang found this photo this morning. These flowers represent her love to her students; rarely has a teacher been so gracious.
She was passionate about astrology, and gave her life to the field - serving over twenty-years on the ISAR Board. Chris spent countless hours with her ISAR team developing the Certification Program. The ISAR Competency Exam was the gem of this program. Countless volunteer hours, months, and years were dedicated to the development and continued improvement of the ISAR Exam. I got to know Chris well from 2011 - 2020, especially through ISAR and serving with her on the ISAR Exam Committee. She was an incredibly efficient person, always returning emails promptly - and always with practical suggestions that made her a pleasure to work with.
Ray Merriman, who was very close to Chris, has written about her for the ISAR E-Zine. I hope that those of you that are ISAR members will read what Ray wrote. She was quite the world traveler and global ambassador for ISAR. I continued to correspond with her after she retired from the ISAR Board. Her last email to me was in October, when she sent her love and healing energy to me during my recovery from heart surgery. She was worried about me and wanted to send me energy; that's the kind of woman she was. Chris was also in the process of publishing a new book, The Great Conjunctions: Shifting Times, and she had just written an article for the ISAR Journal - The Capricorn Revolution.
She will be missed by all in the astrological community and remembered as an inspiration. She deserves to be remembered, it was a true honor to know her.

Mention “Bedok Bak Chor Mee” and I am sure what comes to your mind immediately is a soupy bowl of minced meat noodles with meatballs and minced pork. If you are a fan of Bedok-style bak chor mee or have been living in Bedok since childhood, you will probably recognize Mr Tan Poh Chye who owns Tian Nan Xing Minced Pork Noodle at Blk 511 Bedok North. His son and wife run the stall now.
Even though Mr Tan has retired for a few years, he is still very much interested in the trade. He decided to make a comeback to guide the younger generation. Now, you can enjoy the good old traditional Chai Chee Bak Chor Mee at a coffeeshop in MacPherson Lane!

His grandfather started the business in 1923 along the streets of Chai Chee and he inherited the trade from his father. This 65-year-old hawker has retired from his original stall Tian Nan Xing Minced Pork Noodle at Blk 511 Bedok North. His son and wife run the stall now. (P/S not related to chai chee noodle village)
But there is this saying — once a hawker, always a hawker. Even though Mr Tan has retired for a few years, he is still very much interested in the trade. While he was doing volunteer work, he got to know Mr David Tan who is the owner of this coffeeshop.
David has been a fan of his bak chor mee and encouraged him to make a comeback to guide the younger generation. Now, you can enjoy the good old traditional Chai Chee Bak Chor Mee at a coffeeshop in MacPherson Lane!

I am writing to you to update you on the steps we are taking to combat coronavirus.
In just a few short weeks, everyday life in this country has changed dramatically. We all feel the profound impact of coronavirus not just on ourselves, but on our loved ones and our communities.
I understand completely the difficulties this disruption has caused to your lives, businesses and jobs. But the action we have taken is absolutely necessary, for one very simple reason.
If too many people become seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to cope. This will cost lives. We must slow the spread of the disease, and reduce the number of people needing hospital treatment in order to save as many lives as possible.
That is why we are giving one simple instruction - you must stay at home.
You should not meet friends or relatives who do not live in your home. You may only leave your home for very limited purposes, such as buying food and medicine, exercising once a day and seeking medical attention. You can travel to and from work but should work from home if you can.
When you do have to leave your home, you should ensure, wherever possible, that you are two metres apart from anyone outside of your household.
These rules must be observed. So, if people break the rules, the police will issue fines and disperse gatherings.
I know many of you will be deeply worried about the financial impact on you and your family. The government will do whatever it takes to help you make ends meet and put food on the table.
The enclosed leaflet sets out more detail about the support available and the rules you need to follow. You can also find the latest advice at gov.uk/coronavirus
From the start, we have sought to put in the right measures at the right time. We will not hesitate to go further if that is what the scientific and medical advice tells us we must do.
It's important for me to level with you - we know things will get worse before they get better. But we are making the right preparations, and the more we all follow the rules, the fewer lives will be lost and the sooner life can return to normal.
I want to thank everyone who is working flat out to beat the virus, in particular the staff in our fantastic NHS and care sector across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It has been truly inspirational to see our doctors, nurses and other carers rise magnificently to the needs of the hour.
Thousands of retired doctors and nurses are returning to the NHS - and hundreds of thousands of citizens are volunteering to help the most vulnerable. It is with that great British spirit that we will beat coronavirus and we will beat it together.
That is why, at this moment of national emergency, I urge you, please, to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.
Boris Johnson

On a night where they honored their past,
the Houston Rockets got a pretty good look at the future.
The Rockets retired Clyde Drexler's No. 22 at halftime, then
rallied for a 109-106 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers behind
a career-high 32 points from Shandon Anderson and clutch play
from Kelvin Cato.
Drexler, a former University of Houston standout who was part of
the Rockets' 1995 NBA championship team, was honored in a
35-minute halftime ceremony that included former NBA greats
Julius Erving, Buck Williams and Kiki Vandeweghe. Jack Ramsay,
Drexler's first NBA coach with the Portland Trail Blazers, also
was at the ceremony.
"Growing up in Houston, watching the NBA and watching college
ball, I developed a real love of the game," Drexler said. "To
be able to play it here and now to have my number retired with
Rudy Tomjanovich, Calvin Murphy and Moses Malone, I never would
have thought that. I never thought about being on the court
with them, much less being able to play with them."
Also on hand were Drexler's mother, wife and four children and
Guy Lewis, his former coach at UH. Drexler, who became coach of
his alma mater last season, also heard kind words from Hakeem
Olajuwon, his teammate at school and with the Rockets.
"I am honored to stand here tonight with Clyde," Olajuwon said.
"I've watched Clyde from the beginning in college and we won a
championship together. But it's not just his game, it's his
character. He's a very complete person. It's a blessing for me
to be here with him."
The extended halftime seemed to bother the Rockets, who blew a
nine-point halftime lead but recovered with a 15-0 burst into
the fourth quarter that gave them the lead for good. Anderson
scored nine points in the run.
"I think it was a coincidence that I had that type of game on a
night his number was retired," said Anderson, who was 10-of-17
from the field. "But I've always liked the way he's played, how
he went coast-to-coast. In a lot of ways, my game is a mirror
image of his."
"Shandon was phenomenal," said Tomjanovich, the Rockets' coach.
"He was all over the place. Tonight he did it a lot of
different ways. When we're running and when he gets into the
flow, he's at his best."
Cato scored six of his 10 points in the final two minutes as the
Rockets held off a furious late rally by the 76ers, who went 1-3
on a four-game road trip, with each contest decided by three
points or less. Philadelphia fell to 11-4 in such contests.
Sixers All-Star guard Allen Iverson scored 40 points on 16-of-25
shooting. However, the team fell to 2-10 all-time when he scores
40 or more, including 1-3 this season.
"Iverson is something special," Tomjanovich said. "He made some
great shots tonight. I feel very fortunate to get the win. This
is a really big win against a really good team."
"It really didn't matter what we did," Iverson said. "They just
played excellent."
Despite losing rookie guard and leading scorer Steve Francis to
a strained left groin, Houston won for the ninth time in 12
games. Olajuwon scored 14 points, his best total since
returning from hernia surgery, as the Rockets had seven players
in double figures.
"I think it's just time and learning how each other plays,"
Anderson said. "We had a lot of new guys at the start of the
year and the biggest thing to learn is where the shots are going
to come from. I think the coaching staff has done a great job
of getting us position, both offensively and defensively."
"We're learning what it takes to win as a team," said Cato, who
had three of his four blocks in the final period. "At first, we
were waiting for the older guys to show us the way, but then we
all got hurt. Now we're learning how to play with one another.
The biggest thing is we've had an opportunity to practice with
each other. That has helped us come together."
A dunk by rookie Kenny Thomas, who had 11 points and 12
rebounds, capped the 15-0 run and gave Houston a 95-79 bulge
with eight minutes left. A jumper by Philadelphia's Theo
Ratliff, who tied season highs with 25 points and five blocks,
ended a scoreless drought of 5:04 and started a comeback by the
Sixers.
A three-point play by Ratliff cut the deficit to 99-94 before
Anderson found Cato with an inbounds pass for an alley-oop dunk
that beat the shot clock with two minutes left. Iverson made a
pair of tough baskets around a free throw by Cato, then drew a
foul with 47 seconds to go.
He made the first to cut the deficit to 102-99 but missed the
second. Ratliff ran down the long rebound and fed Iverson, who
missed a potential tying 3-pointer.
Two free throws each by Cato, Cuttino Mobley and Bryce Drew made
it 108-103 with 13 seconds to go. Philadelphia's Eric Snow hit
a 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds left and the Sixers fouled Cato,
who split a pair from the line, giving the Sixers a chance to
tie.
